Learning is a step-by-step process for all of us. The first step I took into education was as a first grade teacher in Washington D.C., where I worked closely with students, parents and supportive community members. Another big step involved completing my doctorate in Educational Assessment & Evaluation. This provided me with the opportunity to work at University of Colorado's Safe Communities-Safe Schools, a project designed to improve school safety. While rewarding work, it couldn’t compare to working directly with students and teachers. So the next step was to obtain a principal's license. I stepped through the door at Adams 12 as an intern at Arapahoe Ridge Elementary in 2004.
In 2005, I joined Trena Speirs as her assistant principal at Arapahoe Ridge. Together we moved through the system, arriving at North Star in 2011. When I stepped into the school I knew I was home. The students, families and amazing staff have kept that feeling alive.
When Mrs. Speirs left North Star in 2015 to become the Director of Literacy for the district, I was honored to follow in her footsteps as principal of North Star. Now as a team of staff, parents, and students, we are continuing the step-by-step learning that ensures our collective success at North Star.
Please feel free to come and talk with me. I can be found greeting students at the front door in the morning. You may also call or stop by the front desk to make an appointment.
