October 2018 Newsletter
Greetings, North Star Families!
September has been a busy month, highlighted by many celebrations for our staff and community! Please read below to keep yourself informed of what’s happening around North Star.
On September 21st we held our first Scholar’s Breakfast. Students in grade k-5 were celebrated for their achievement in reading, writing, and problem solving. Congratulations scholars!
Parents of students in first and second grade may have noticed that our class sizes are rather large. Thanks to additional funds from the District, we have been able to hire two new faculty members. Melinda Davis will be joining our first grade team. Melinda’s education career includes experience as a public librarian in Utah and California as well as a school librarian and primary teacher in Boulder. Sheila Stradley will be joining our second grade team. She has worked with Kids Smart in Jefferson County in addition to teaching at the primary level in DPS and Aurora Public Schools. Both staff members will start with their new classes on Monday, October 8th.
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up on Wednesday, October 10th and Thursday, October 11th. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about your child’s progress and to ask questions. If you don’t see a reminder in your child’s backpack, please call us at 720-972-5560 to confirm your conference time.
Our school renovation continues. Many of you have had the opportunity to see the work that has taken place both inside and outside of our building. That work is ongoing. We want to encourage you to enjoy these wonderful new improvements to our school and also ask for your patience as the construction team puts the finishing touches on our building renovation. We also want to thank you for passing the 2016 Bond that made these improvements possible for our school.
On a final note, we continue to need your support and feedback. We are looking for ideas and ways we can increase our parental involvement at North Star. Look for additional information and invitations on our website, via automated calls, and in the lobby of the school.
